hey, so I've been studying slight of mouth patterns and stuff like that lately and I've been getting some results but I do need to study more etc. Anyways I've relized that I kinda stop looking at people as people and think more just about results. Is that a normal thing in mentalism? Do u ever experience this?
While the results are important, and it is good to make that commitment to it, I think it's also good to be aware that sometimes we become addicted to the outcome, which is actually a negative form of the positive being results oriented. Just wanted to make that distinction and see if anyone had heard anything similar to that?
Sure, it's a great principle that I've seen introduced in many areas, but originally it's one of the four noble truths of Buddhism. Heres a nice definition of the idea.... ( ->link<- ) 2. The origin of suffering is attachment.
The origin of suffering is attachment to transient things and the ignorance thereof. Transient things do not only include the physical objects that surround us, but also ideas, and -in a greater sense- all objects of our perception. Ignorance is the lack of understanding of how our mind is attached to impermanent things. The reasons for suffering are desire, passion, ardour, pursuit of wealth and prestige, striving for fame and popularity, or in short: craving and clinging. Because the objects of our attachment are transient, their loss is inevitable, thus suffering will necessarily follow. Objects of attachment also include the idea of a "self" which is a delusion, because there is no abiding self. What we call "self" is just an imagined entity, and we are merely a part of the ceaseless becoming of the universe.
Sorry if that's way over the top, but I'll try to put it in terms that might be more applicable, ever heard of "neediness" in the Pick up community? They're talking about the same thing, (if you don't know) it's the idea that if you want the lay REALLY bad, you mentally trip yourself up by wanting it too much... So thats pretty much the idea, don't get so fixated on the result...
Like I said before, there's nothing wrong with being results oriented, but dehumanizing the process to the point where all you see in people is the potential gains you could get from them, then I'd have to say thats an issue....
Not judging thats what you're doing or anything thats just my opinion, so sorry if this is offensive, totally not intended to be....
Okay, I get it. Yes, I understand the concept now.
I *think* what you're (and I agree with you) is that you have an outcome but you must have some detachment so that you can more clearly observe what is happening DURING the interaction and prior to any outcome.
Right, and it's the clear observation that makes it the sensory acuity, otherwise you're blindly running towards the goal.... Didn't mean to turn it all philosophical, sorry, but glad the point got across alright...
The continual awareness at the back of the head that this is a numbers game of hits and misses. Where exactly is the fine line between the two extremes of looking at people as resources, and being genuine to yourself and person x to the point of zero conscious manipulation? (ie there is no voice in the head that is basically giving status reports continually)
